I wanted to wait until my last day as a Conservation International (CI) Global Strategy Intern (wow, that went quick!) to make my last post because we also launched my main deliverable, the strategic planning resource hub, on Friday. Reality Check by the Reflecting Pool

I always thought the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was bubbling with pristine water to be able to reflect its surroundings so beautifully. Then, a few years ago when D.C. overnight shipped ducks from a massive die off in the pool via private jet to Madison’s USGS, I started to question this belief of mine. Seeing the pool in person, I now thoroughly understand the context. This story parallel’s well with my wide-eyed view that conservation organizations have it all figured out. Although still in amazement with the work of CI, with more information, I am now able to identify potential flaws and areas for improvement.

A Blue-line Ride to the Green Place

I’ve never seen such respect for an unwritten rule as that for standing on the right and walking on the left of an escalator in D.C. I quickly learned this norm taking the blue-line metro from the land of black suburbans to Crystal City on the first day of my internship with Conservation International (CI). On top of the vast array of free coffee, a meditation room, and free-for-all desk selection each day because so many people are traveling the world, CI is doing truly great work to ensure the resilience of our planet.
